It’s time for some Asian heat! Gochujang beef with edamame beans is a home favorite because it’s pretty easy and fast to make, yet packed with delicious flavors and different textures. We absolutely recommend you to give it a try!
If you are new to Gochujang, this recipe is a great option to try it. Gochujang is a staple in Korean cuisine, and it is basically a fermented chili paste. It is savory and mildly sweet, with a distinct but not excessive flavor that goes fantastic with meat and vegetables. Don’t worry too much about the heat, though: Gochujang is reasonably hot, so you can stay in control of your Gochujang beef with edamame beans by adjusting how much paste you use.
Nowadays, Gochujang has become very popular and can be found in most supermarkets that sell Asian products. Or, if your usual supermarket does not have it, pretty much every Asian store will sell it. Edamame beans can typically be bought frozen and peeled, which makes them very easy to work with. If you can only find them whole, you need to peel them for this recipe.
Pretty much any cut of beef will work in this recipe, but we suggest you use a cut without much fat since the recipe calls for other oils and we don’t want the dish to become too greasy. Also, remember to cut the meat into thin, bite-sized stripes.
Gochujang beef with edamame beans
Ingredients
- 9 oz beef
- 2½ oz green onions
- 4½ oz edamame beans
- ½ white onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- 2 tbsp minced ginger
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp gochujang
- ½ tsp sugar
- 1 tsp sesame seed oil
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil

- pepper
Instructions
- Cut the beef in thin bite-sized stripes. Transfer it to a bowl and add gochujang, light soy sauce, sugar, pepper and sesame seed oil. Mix well and set aside.
- Slice green onions diagonally into long stripes. Chop the white onion, finely mince the garlic and ginger.
- Toast some sesame seeds in a dry pan until golden. Set them aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan and add the beef. Cook for a few minutes until the beef is done. Then add the green onion, white onion, garlic, ginger and edamame beans. Cook until the onions become soft. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Plate and sprinkle with the toasted sesame seeds. Serve with rice.
Notes
- You can adjust how spicy you want your beef to be by adding more or less gochujang. Also, have in mind that gochujang is salty, so you might need to adjust the amount of soy sauce you add.
