Who hasn’t heard of guacamole by now? There’s a bunch of good reasons why this dish became so popular in recent years: it’s delicious, healthy, easy to make, and a crowd pleaser! You can eat it by itself as a snack with some tortilla chips, but it also works wonderful in tacos, burritos, fajitas, and many other dishes.
By far, the single most important ingredient in guacamole is avocados. If you have the chance to buy them at a farmer’s market, ask the merchant for avocados that will be ripe on the day you plan to make guacamole. Else, if you can buy them ripe and ready to use, that’s usually a better bet than buying them unripe and having to time your guacamole to when the avocados are ready to use.
Speaking of timing, avocados start to oxidize soon after being opened and exposed to air. While this doesn’t really affect the flavor of guacamole, its color changes from a beautiful bright green to a very unappetizing dark and brownish green. So, we advise to prepare guacamole right before serving, and to store any leftovers in an air-tight container.
There are many variations of guacamole with regards to the ingredients and how to use them. Some people add olive oil, others blend the avocados, some add cream, and so on. Our recipe gives a thicker, not oily consistency, and an intense avocado flavor. We love it this way, and we hope you will too 🙂

Quick and easy guacamole
Ingredients
- 2 avocados
- 2½ oz cherry tomatoes
- ½ oz onion
- ⅛ lime
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- Cut the avocados in half and take out the stones. With a spoon, remove the avocados from their skin and place in a bowl. Mash the avocados with a fork until they are mostly smooth but leave some chunks.
- Finely chop the onion and add to avocado mix. Chop the tomatoes in small pieces and add them to the mix. Squeeze the lime and add a bit of salt and pepper. Mix carefully, trying not to crush the tomatoes. Serve with tortilla chips, or add to fajitas, tacos, or your favorite dish.
Notes
- You can add heat to your guacamole by throwing in a fresh jalapeno pepper. Chop it finely, and consider whether you want to keep or discard the seeds, since they can be very hot.
